Coming Soon: The Victoria Cinemaphile, Opening January 1st, 2008

What is The Victoria Cinemaphile (TVC.com)?

Mission Status:

To provide the residents of Victoria and surrounding communities up to date information on weekly opening movies, DVD reviews including weekly picks, occasional reviews of top films in cinemas and various other commentary. Local movie showtimes and promotions of film festivals, special screenings, the occasional set visit and various other city happenings will also be published, but the site's content will be film specific.

TVC will also want to review your independent movie or short for publication on this website. A monthly Short Film in Review series is planned along with interviews for films making the festival circuit.

Expect to also see reviews of every last cinema in Victoria. The best places to see film, the worst, the prices and where the best popcorn in the city is.

Weekly columns include:

Monday: Box office weekend wrapup, posting the Top 10 with commentary.
Tuesday: DVD of the week, since Tuesday is the release date for all new titles. This will give you a primer of what to rent in case you missed a film theatrically.
Thursday: Films that are opening in Victoria on the weekend, followed by recommendations of films currently in release as well as mention of special screenings.

TVC is committed to the art and pleasure of filmgoing in the city, and the promotion of the art of going out to the cinema on a regular basis. Weekly DVD picks will also be advertised as a means to promote a film once it has left its theatrical release, but this is not a site that will promote you to "wait for the video". I still feel the cinema is the ultimate viewing format for a film and this site will promote that fact.

Lastly, I want your help! Are you a writer? Are you from Victoria and a regular filmgoer? If so I want to hear from you and have your input. I am also taking suggestions for the URL of the site: www.victoriacinemaphile.com is a possibility at this point.

Much more coming, so please watch this space.
